在花了三年时间学习了计算机科学后,作为一个从小就立志成为计算机科学家并且在初中就开始编程的人,我反复自问,我的未来究竟在哪里?我能否安于现状?我能否继续成为一个理想主义者并坚持寻找生命中真正重要的东西。我一如既往的热爱计算机科学,现在我对计算机科学与生活的认识与三年前有着天差地别。开发和探索,经常使用这两种策略在随机过程寻找最优解,采用正确的策略也可以在人生的选择中趋向于更优的道路,我决定回顾过往,认真思考今后怎样做。

我在上科大所经历的东西远远超过了初心者时候的我的认知。计算机科学应当是一门实践的学科,我在这里实现了计算机的基础,比如计算机网络课上的软件光猫,一个操作系统甚至一个编译器。这些令我对计算机科学有了另一种视角。我相信应用要与实践结合,所以我去了工业界实习。在 deemos 的实习中我第一次负责了一个全栈项目,我发现这里有太多值得学习和改进的地方了,团队协作需要计算机作为工具并且需要制定质量管理计划。在实习期间,deemos 获得了红衫的投资,我觉得用计算机科学中的想法去改变世界是意见很兴奋的事情,我听说的很多故事都因此而改变了世界,我认为这是我学习计算机科学的一个目标。

我相信灵感来源于生活。计算机科学是因为能够服务大众才伟大的,在其中的自由软件理念使得计算机科学成为了一个开放的,几乎没有门槛的世界。大一的时候我负责了社团的镜像源建设,这是对于 Linux 操作系统的分发,我还会帮助同学安装这一免费的操作系统,许多同学因此而受益,对我来说这是一件很酷的事情,人与人之间通过互联网产生了联系。之后在 Nekomimirouter 中的公网 BGP 项目也是类似的将人与人连接了起来。之后我又参加了 AOSC OS 项目,为一个我们自己的 Linux 发行版做贡献。自己的电脑上运行着自己参与的操作系统,用着自己分发的软件,即使开发者比用户还多,我们也乐此不疲。在 FOSDEM 2022 上,我们分享了 AOSC Retro 项目的理念,在老旧电脑上运行现代操作系统。人重新给物赋予了新的价值。

本着计算机与人的交互和利用每一个可以运算的设备的理念,在上海科技大学教授杨智策的指导下,我进行了人机交互的研究。通过蓝牙开发板进行中断关闭与硬件定时器的设计,我取得了 10 ms 级别的蓝牙同步延迟,利用这个特性可以实现 2D 平面上的声学追踪。希望这项研究在之后可以取得成果。

过往的人生经历让我懂得,我更希望在计算机与人的方面进行研究。这次申请 UIUC 的 LAX 学院,贵学院的命题逻辑课程与数学编程课程可以让我对计算机的内部数学系统有更深刻的了解。我相信来到 UIUC 会有新的机会和挑战。

After spending three years studying computer science, as someone who grew up aspiring to be a computer scientist and started programming in middle school, I repeatedly asked myself, “Where is my future? Can I continue to be an idealist and keep looking for the thing that matters in my life? I love computer science, and my perception of computer science and life is very different now than it was three years ago. Developing and exploring, often using either strategy to find optimal solutions in stochastic processes, and adopting the right strategies can also lead to a more optimal path in life’s choices, and I decided to look back and think seriously about how to do that in the future.

What I experienced at ShanghaiTech University was far more than what I imagined when I was a beginner. Computer science should be a hands-on discipline where I implemented the fundamentals of computers, such as a software Modem in a computer networking class, an operating system, or even a compiler. These gave me a different perspective on computer science. I believe in combining applications with practice, so I went on an internship in the industry during my internship at Deemos Technologies Inc. I was in charge of a full-stack project for the first time, and I found so much to learn and improve, with teamwork requiring computers as a tool and a quality management plan. During my internship, Deemos Technologies Inc received an investment from Sequoia Capital, and I found it exciting to use ideas from computer science to change the world, and many of the stories I heard changed the world as a result, which I think is one of the goals of my computer science studies.

I believe that inspiration comes from life. Computer science is excellent because it can serve the public, and the free software philosophy in it makes it an open, almost barrier-free world. During my first year, I was in charge of building open source mirrors for a computer club, which was copies of Linux operating systems. I helped my classmates install this free operating system, and many of them benefited from it, which was a cool thing for me, as people became connected through the Internet. Then the BGP network project in Nekomimirouter connected people. Then I joined the AOSC OS project to contribute to a Linux distribution of our own. We ran our distribution operating system on our computers and used our own distributed software. Even though there were more developers than users, we were happy to do so. At FOSDEM 2022, we shared the idea of the AOSC Retro project, running a modern operating system on an old computer. People re-giving new value to things.

With the concept of computer-human interaction and using every computational device, I conducted research on human-computer interaction under the advice of Assistant Professor Zhice Yang at ShanghaiTech University. By using a Bluetooth development board for interrupt shutdown and hardware timer design, I achieved a Bluetooth synchronization delay of 10 ms level. Using this feature, I can achieve acoustic tracking on a 2D plane. I hope that this research will bear fruit later on.

My past life experiences have taught me that I would prefer to pursue research in the area of computers and people. By applying to the LAX School at UIUC, the Mathematical logic courses and mathematical programming courses will give me a deeper understanding of the internal mathematical systems of computers. I believe there will be new opportunities and challenges when I come to UIUC.
